I spent four days in Dumfries and Galloway to photograph red deer and other wildlife in early autumn.  This time of year is the rutting season and the stags were rounding up their females and roaring to warn off competing males.

I also was able to photograph sika as well as red deer, sika deer are native to Asia and were introduced to Great Britain in the nineteen century, they have spread across Scotland living in the woodlands and heaths, they are very vocal with a range of sounds including a very eerie scream!

Scotland is the ideal place to find red squirrels which are becoming sadly rare in England, the conifer forests in Dumfries and Galloway are the ideal habitat and they thrive here

I spent a morning photographing red kites, unfortunately the weather was dull and wet but as one of the areas where red kites have been successfully reintroduced the Galloway Forest is the ideal place to watch them.
